We’re in IBS 2023 countdown mode. This year, IBS (the International Builders Show) and KBIS (the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show) will be in Las Vegas. This is one of my favorite industry events. The best and brightest in the construction industry come together to network, learn, and share what's new in the world of residential construction. It's the epitome of Collaboration over Competition

If you are planning to attend the NAHB International Builders'​ Show later this month be sure to stop by the Custom Building Education Centrals. Check out the schedule to see what's on tap. I will be presenting a session on Business Growth & Optimization on Jan 31st at 1:30 pm and will lead a shop talk on Succession Planning on Feb 1st at 1:00 pm. Come network with other high-end custom builders, architects and industry leaders from across the custom homebuilding industry.

If you haven't attended IBS before you should give it some serious consideration. It is a great way to expose yourself and your team to the best our industry has to offer.

Duane entered the construction industry over 30 years ago working on oceanfront estates in The Hamptons on Long Island, New York. From laborer to craftsman to business owner he was always honing his skills and immersed himself in all aspects of high end custom construction. In 1996 he moved to Charlotte, North Carolina and started a general contracting business with Roger Ketchum and the two achieved success right away, winning industry awards and earning rave reviews from clients, designers, and trade partners. That relationship continues to this day.

Today, as a builder, remodeler, coach, & consultant, he is dedicated to elevating professionalism in the construction industry. Having built an all star team that runs his construction business, he has now shifted his focus from the day to day aspects of building and remodeling award winning homes to helping others build more rewarding and more valuable businesses. He believes the key ingredients to success are continuous learning, strategic planning, collaboration with like minded peers and the elimination of egos. He believes that if you fail to do these things the industry will reduce you to a commodity and leave you alone on an island.

When he is not talking shop you will most likely find him outdoors. He and his family love to travel, hike, explore, and discover new places and new things. "Enjoy life by living in the moment and try not to take yourself too seriously."
